Keeping Your Child Safe

What does St. Ann's do to keep my child safe?

  1. We follow the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops rules and guidelines of the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People's Promise to Protect. This was created in 2002 and revised in June of 2018. To find more information about this charter go to or
  2. All volunteers and staff are background checked and VIRTUS Safe Environment trained when assisting with children.
  3. We follow the You Plus 2 rule at LAUNCH, which states that no adult is left alone with a child that is not in a public or easily visible area. Adults need to be with another child or adult witness to protect all involved parties.
  4. All volunteers and staff are Mandated Reporters, which means if they suspect ANYTHING inappropriate has or is happening to a child at home, in school, in the church, etc., they MUST report it to the Dept of Family and Child Services to investigate.

What does St. Ann's suggest to parents to keep their children safe?

  1. Drop off children to certified adults in a public area, not alone.
  2. Drop off children in designated drop off areas only.
  3. Do not allow children to wander around the church campus unaccompanied, including going to the restroom during Mass, or being dropped off for religious education classes.
  4. Regularly ask your children if they feel comfortable at church, in religious ed classes, in their lives. Have an open dialogue.
  5. Believe your children if they report anything to you, and report it to the civil authorities (DFCS) before reporting it to the church authorities.
  6. Participate in the optional VIRTUS training courses for children and families at St. Ann's or in the diocese to help make children aware and vigilant in regards to sexual abuse and misconduct.
